Golf season continues

WLGC Annual Meeting

The Whitefish Lake Golf Association Annual Business Meeting will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13 starting at 9:15 a.m. with a hosted brunch followed by the business section at 10 a.m. All members are invited to attend to hear reports from various committees of the WLGA Board of Directors and to elect two new board members in the class of 2019. This year’s candidates are Dick Hensley, John Hartlieb and Neil Huether. Absentee ballots are available in the Golf Shop for those Tier One members unable to attend the annual meeting. A snapshot of the 2018 financial position will be presented along with projections for the remainder of the year.

Congrats Bulldog Golfers

The WLGC members are all proud of our WHS golfers for another good season and finish at the State Class A tournament. The girl’s team captured the second place trophy with both Ella Shaw and Megan Archibald finishing with All State honors. Cameron Kahle had a great tournament finishing in a tie for second place with rounds of 73-72 over the Hamilton Golf Course. Ryggs Johnston of Libby completed his high school career with his fourth state medalist honors joining a very small elite group of Montana prep golfers to ever achieve that honor. The very young Bulldog teams should be strong contenders in both the boys and girls state tournament next year as well.

You can putt out of a bunker

If the conditions are in your favor, you may have the choice to putt your ball out of a bunker. If the sand is wet or firm and the bunker edge is not sloped up too much, then the putt may travel nicely up the slope and onto the green. Do not try this in fluffy or soft sand as the ball will not roll very well. Stand tall, and concentrate on striking the ball cleanly without hitting the sand while remaining as still as possible. Also remember that in wet, firm sand hitting a sand wedge with a thick sole can cause you to bounce into the ball and skull it across the green. So consider using your regular wedge or a 60 degree if you carry one. Just like every other shot in golf, you must accelerate the club to get the ball out of the sand.

Plenty of fall golf left

While we may be experiencing some cooler weather and snow in higher elevations, there are still plenty of good golf days left with the golf course remaining open until the end of the month. Keeping your hands and core warm are key to maintaining your game when the temperatures are lower. The Golf Shop has some great deals on remaining apparel and equipment so stop in and shop for all those golf related items you may need.
