Author talks 'Puma' book at event

Whitefish Review will host wildlife biologist and author Jim Williams at Casey’s on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a slide show, reading, and discussion of “Path of the Puma,” a new book about the remarkable resilience of the mountain lion.

Williams has been working for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks for over 27 years. He has worked on mountain lion ecology issues in Montana, as well as the Patagonia region of Argentina and Chile throughout his career.

After decades of working with local communities to conserve mountain lions and other large carnivores, Williams’ book explores how wildlife thrives where conservation, community, and culture overlap.

During a time when most wild animals are experiencing decline in the face of development and climate change, the intrepid mountain lion — also known as a the puma and the cougar — has been quietly and secretly reclaiming historic habitats in the United States, Canada and South America.

“I am excited to share some stories and photos of wild pumas and the wild places they call home at both ends of the world,” says Williams.

In addition to the slideshow, authors Douglas H. Chadwick and Michael Jamison will join Williams for a lively panel discussion. A book signing by the author will conclude the evening.
