Whitefish’s urban farmers were egg-static over a Whitefish City-County Planning Board decision allowing residents to keep chickens without paying a $990 for a conditional use permit. Residents would be allowed to keep up to three hens but no roosters.

Nov 26, 1998

The city of Whitefish was trying to turn the lights off on Town Pump, whose bright neon sign caused a disagreement over whether the sign fit Whitefish. The city had been trying to get Town Pump to change the sign for two years, but were starting to make headway on finding a middle ground.

30 years ago

Nov. 30, 1988

Skiers were welcomed to the 1988-89 season on Big Mountain with more than a dozen inches of fresh powder on opening weekend. About 2,500 skiers showed up for the first four days of operation, the majority of them locals.

40 years ago

Nov. 29, 1978

The new Whitefish Clinic was open and ready for business. The clinic, located directly north of North Valley Hospital, employed 14 people and would be able to handle more patients with increased efficiency in the new building.

50 years ago

Nov. 28, 1968

Just as the country is dealing with ways to preserve the environment now, Whitefish was preparing to host an outdoor education series called “Environment is Everyone’s Business.” The program would look into the balance of nature and mankind and how wildlife is affected.
