From Wall Street to Big Mountain – financial meltdowns caused by the Lehman Brothers had ski resorts around the country worried about their own futures. After Moonlight Basin resort began laying off employees due to the Wall Street meltdown, shareholders and employees in Whitefish began to worry about their own job security.

20 years ago

Oct. 15, 1998

The Whitefish Lake Golf Club proposed a $350,000 restoration project, which first required an extension of the city’s lease on the property. The clubhouse was built in the 1930s and needed upgrades to the electrical system, infrastructure and external facade.

30 years ago

Oct. 19, 1988

Around 30 students were sent home from Whitefish High School after a measles scare hit town. Several cases were diagnosed in Kalispell, and all students without immunization records were sent home in Whitefish. Most students were back in school by the following week, with a flurry of vaccinations given out as well.

40 years ago

Oct. 19, 1978

Whitefish was preparing for a new wave length, as the city waited to hear back on its application for its first AM radio station. The city applied to the FCC and a 225-foot broadcast tower would need to be built upon approval.

50 years ago

Oct. 17, 1968

Fashion was on display at the Masonic temple in Whitefish. As part of a fundraiser, the Whitefish Women’s Club held a “Discovery in Fashions” show, showing off clothing that fit the theme of “Columbus Day.”
