Mitchell should resign

| May 22, 2018 1:27 PM

Phil Mitchell should resign as County Commissioner. To improve his own view, Mitchell killed six county-owned cottonwood trees in a county-owned park that taxpayers had paid for. An arborist determined it would cost $30,000 to replace these trees. But for some reason, Mitchell was given a plea deal to pay only $16,000 for the damage he had done. Who is going to make up the difference? You and me; the taxpayers.

Mitchell was originally charged with felony criminal mischief and now his crime has been downgraded to a misdemeanor. This is outrageous! We do not need a county commissioner who breaks the law. How can we ever trust a man like this to make decisions for our county?

I am shocked that in all this time he has not voluntarily stepped down and apologized to citizens of the Flathead. Mitchell should do the right thing and resign. If he does not step down perhaps Flathead citizens should consider a recall to remove him from office.
