The Lady Bulldogs got a solid weekend of tennis in down in the Bitterroot.

Whitefish took down Hamilton 5-2 before falling to a strong Corvallis team 7-0 on Friday. The following day the team competed in the Bitterroot Invitational.

Against Hamilton, Claire Carloss and Aubrey Hanks picked up singles wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. In doubles, Kit Anderson and Autumn Roalson, Abigail Shaffer and Payton Kastella and Hunter Grimes and Jade Greenburg picked up wins.

Head coach Patrick Dryden said he tried some new looks in his roster and was happy with the results.

“We did kind of a different lineup, played some different combinations. There were some people who hadn’t played a lot of doubles that actually looked pretty good in doubles,” he said.

Dryden said he was happy with the play of Carloss at the No. 1 singles spot, but some tough defeats by some high level competitors will be part of a learning experience. Carloss went 1-1 in the invitational on Saturday.

“She had a very impressive win over a Hamilton girl, [who] played extremely well in the invitational. So that was a nice win,” Dryden said. “That was a good experience for Claire. I think she realized she’s going to have to be more aggressive with her game plan to beat people at that level.”

This week is another full schedule for the Lady Dogs.

On Tuesday after press time they headed down to Polson for a makeup dual against the Lady Pirates. They’ll host Columbia Falls on Thursday, then bring Ronan and Libby to town for a doubleheader on Saturday.

Thursday’s dual starts at 3 p.m. at the Riverside Park courts.

With just a couple weeks left in the season, Dryden said he likes where the play of his doubles teams are going.

“Our lineup is starting to come together. I thought we made some really big strides with our doubles this week,” he said. “I saw flashes of brilliance, we’ve just got to work for consistency now. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs when it comes to doubles.”
