Hoping to keep meetings from running too late, the Whitefish City Council announced they’d be working on keeping meetings shorter and ending before 11 p.m. This came after a March 3 meeting went to 1 a.m. after two-and-a-half hours of communications from the public.

March 26, 1998

North Valley Hospital was looking to add an assisted living facility to its campus in Whitefish. The proposed $2.7 million facility would be located along the Whitefish River and would be for those who are too independent to need a hospital or nursing home but need some help with basic daily tasks, like eating, getting out of bed or using the restroom, the hospital said.

30 years ago

March 30, 1988

Blizzard conditions in Canada kept busloads of visitors in Whitefish over the weekend.

Skiers from Calgary and Edmonton, in the amounts of 20 busloads, were kept from home after roads were deemed impassable in the country to the north. Only .2 inches of snow was recorded at Glacier Park International Airport.

40 years ago

March 30, 1978

The Whitefish City-County Planning Board saw a host of proposed additions to the city. The board approved two subdivisions, a rezone for a highway commercial lot, and denied a proposal for a new trailer court near the intersection of Highway 93 and Montana 40.

50 years ago

March 28, 1968

A community survey run by the Whitefish Jaycees rated most of the city’s businesses and services as “excellent.” The survey asked 110 residential homes and 33 businesses to rate various kinds of business and service activities in the community. Low ratings went to basketball and tennis courts, parks and the police department.
