The Flathead County commissioners approved a resolution rescinding an interlocal agreement between Whitefish and the county for the “doughnut” area just outside city limits. The vote was 2-1 by the commissioners, and the Whitefish City Council immediately voted to sue the county over the decision.

March 19, 1998

The city of Whitefish was exploring the possibility of a city website. Working with Glacier Country Marketing, the city hoped to set up an eight-page website that would allow citizens to pay bills, check out event calendars and ask questions all from the comfort of their home computer.

30 years ago

March 23, 1988

Skiers exited Chair 1 on Big Mountain in an unusual way – by rope. After a wire burnt out on the lift over the weekend, ski patrol spent the next 80 minutes lowering 56 stranded skiers by rope and harness.

40 years ago

March 23, 1978

The local thieves were on a mission to build a car piece by piece. Police reported a string of thefts that included an individual front bumper, a license plate and four hubcaps.

50 years ago

March 21, 1968

Just as the Whitefish School District is currently adding a levy request to the May ballot, District 44 voters 50 years ago were being asked to approve a $77,000 special levy. The levy would be used to fund personnel salaries, with 20 percent going into physical assets as well.
