Whitefish had a celebrity coming to town for the Big Sky Country Antique Fair at the O’Shaughnessy Center. Karolyn Grimes, who played Zuzu in the 1946 film “It’s a Wonderful Life,” was the special guest for the fair. Grimes was auctioning autographed movie memorabilia.

June 25, 1998

An unknown “Karen of Whitefish” was pretty popular after grilling Rush Limbaugh on his radio show for more than 15 minutes the prior week. The call generated a flood of calls and faxes, a Limbaugh staffer said, getting more response than most other calls to the show.

30 years ago

June 22, 1988

The Whitefish School District was looking for ways to work around a projected $90,000 shortfall in the elementary district budget. Dropping student totals meant less state contributions to the district, and the deficit would likely need to come out of cash reserves.

40 years ago

June 29, 1978

To make their case for why Whitefish needed a swimming pool, the Whitefish Swim Team challenged the city’s fathers and councilors to a swim race in the lake on the Fourth of July. If no councilman took up the challenge, the team said, it means they are all “chicken about the cold water.”

50 years ago

June 27, 1968

A quick response by firefighters helped put out a fire on the roof of the Montana Plywood Co. plant on Karrow Avenue. The volunteer fireman responded to the call at 10 a.m., and said the building suffered “considerable damage.”
