Nearly 270 players participated in the 2018 Bulldog Open and enjoyed a fantastic day of golf to raise money supporting the Whitefish Lake Golf Club Junior Golf Program. A host of volunteers make the event special every year with Golf Professional Tim Olson’s staff leading the way along with Gary Norby Junior Golf Foundation Board of Directors. Linda Ray was the MVP of volunteers once again gathering supporters and sponsors for the event. A special thanks goes out to Don K Chevrolet for offering a new Camaro for a hole in one on hole No. 4. Jesco Power sports supported the putting contest with the winner vying for a new watercraft. Once again the local banks, American Bank, Glacier Bank and First Interstate Bank stepped up with tremendous support for closest to prizes and grand prize for the winning team. Markus Foods, Whitefish Lake Restaurant and National Parks Realty provided the support needed to offer a free lunch and evening barbecue for all the participants and guests. The biggest thank you goes to all the players who participated to support Junior Golf and the Whitefish High School golf teams. It is always fun to see past Bulldog Golf Team members return to support the program that helped them learn the game.
Think Smooth for Fairway Woods
Most players will naturally try to swing harder when hitting a fairway wood on a long shot. This actually causes the swing to be shorter and the transition to be jerky — sending the club off plane. Think smooth when hitting a fairway wood. Grip the club lightly, play the ball off your forward heel, and take a slightly wider stance than normal. Make a smooth back swing with a good shoulder turn, then allow the club to drop down and through without excessive force. Your arc and shoulder turn will create all the swing speed you need and the solid contact will produce better shots.
Juniors Qualify for State Tournament
Nearly 70 young golfers from around the western part of the state were in Whitefish last week qualifying for the state junior tournament to be held later this month in Helena. Tyler Avery shot a remarkable 68 to post the best local score in the 12 and under division. Cameron Kahle also advance to the state level with his solid round at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
