Resort opens daily for summer season

| June 12, 2018 2:55 PM

Whitefish Mountain Resort will open daily on Saturday, June 16 for summer activities.

Due to warm temperatures and sun to melt the snow, along with the mountain’s trail crew, 10 additional mountain bike trails will open this weekend including Kashmir, Freebird, The Summit Trail and the Overflow Zone. Runaway Train and GNR will remain closed due to snow and are expected to open at the end of June.

“We are pleased that this year’s early opening provided an opportunity for those seeking outdoor activities on the weekends. As we enter seven-day operations on June 16, we are excited to offer mountain bikers top-to-bottom trails. Those trails should be in great shape,” Whitefish Mountain Resort CEO Dan Graves said. “We are also looking forward to our new summer activity Summer Tubing. Now our youngest guests will have more to do and can get the most out of their day just like their older siblings who get to experience the Aerial Adventure Park or Zip Line Tours. Summer Tubing will be the perfect way to compliment other activities for a full day of fun for the whole family up here on the mountain.”

The resort will open the Strider Bike Park this Saturday for bikers ages 2-6 who can practice their riding skills on pedal-less bikes as they roll through the dirt course located next to the Base Lodge patio.

The Whitefish Bike Park will host two regional races including the Northwest Cup, one of the country’s premier downhill race series. The competition takes place on Sunday, Aug. 26. In addition, Montana’s Enduro Series returns to the Whitefish Bike Park on July 15. More than 100 riders are expected to compete in this year’s event.

Also new this summer, local downhill riders will have their own night of racing on the mountain. The new Ten Dollar Downhill series begins June 20. This six-week race series consists of one run down the race track on courses marked and closed to the public during racing. Access the courses via the chairlift with discounted lift tickets available to competitors for $26. Racing is every Wednesday through Aug. 1 except July 4.

The six-week race series Thursday Night XC Race League is open to all ages and skill levels, and features a kids’ race and a cross-country race. The weekly series begins July 12 and ends Aug. 16.

Whitefish Mountain Resort also offers Scenic Lift Rides, Alpine Slide and Spider Monkey Mountain, a 24-foot tower kids can climb through on levels of nylon webbing and descend on a giant inflatable slide.

Hikers and huckleberry pickers enjoy the Danny On Memorial Hiking Trail. The Summit House features the only mountaintop dining in Montana and the Summit Nature Center. The Base Lodge is a hub of activity and refreshment with the Base Lodge Café and Base Lodge Bar.
