Garden volunteers
Whitefish School’s Center for Sustainability and Entrepreneurship welcomes residents of Whitefish and the surrounding areas to join them for Summer Garden Volunteer Days. Every Monday from through Aug. 20, the CSE is opening from 9 a.m. to noon for community members to come help plant and tend the greenhouse and outdoor garden beds. The knowledge and skills learned at the CSE will translate well into a personal garden at home. These will be open hours and volunteers are able to stop by for as much time as they are able.
Kids hike
Discover the critters of the Whitefish Trail, great and small, on a nature walk with the Whitefish Trail Naturalist during a free Kids’ Nature Walk on Thursday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. This event is appropriate for kids of all ages and their parents.
Registration is not required and the event is free to the public. There is no age restriction, and adults and children are encouraged to attend. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Meet at Lion Mountain Trailhead prepared by a short 2-3 mile hike.
Wildflowers hike
Do you ever find yourself on the trail, wondering what those beautiful wildflowers are? Join Whitefish Legacy Partners on Wednesday, June 13 at 6 p.m. at the Lion Mountain Trailhead for a 2-3 mile family friendly guided hike to meander through the woods and learn about the wide array of colorful wildflowers that line the Whitefish Trail. Learn how to identify local flowers using hand lenses and field guides provided during the hike.
This event is free and open to the public.
Vacation Bible school
Experience the ride of a lifetime at Rolling River Vacation Bible School June 18-21 at Whitefish United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday. Children will try science experiments, create fun crafts and take part in community projects. Snack provided. Cost is $10/child or $20/family; scholarships available. WCVB
The Whitefish Convention and Visitors Bureau (Explore Whitefish) will hold a meeting of the Board of Directors on Monday, June 18 at Best Western Rocky Mountain Lodge, 6510 U.S Highway 93 South. The Explore Whitefish RFP Evaluation Committee will convene before the meeting of the Board of Directors. The Evaluation Committee meeting begins at 1 p.m. and the meeting of the Board of Directors begins at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend both meetings. For more information, please call 862-3390.
Tourism survey
The Whitefish Tourism Master Plan Committee is asking folks to take a survey to determine if it’s headed in the right direction in creating a tourism master plan. The survey is available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/whitefishresident. Survey’s are also available at City Hall.
Coffee
Whitefish City Manager Adam Hammatt will be holding Coffee with the City Manager Thursday, June 14 at 4 p.m. at the Montana Coffee Traders in downtown Whitefish.
Clifford visit
Whitefish Community Library kicks off its Summer Reading Challenge on Friday, June 15 from noon to 1 p.m., with favorite children’s book character, Clifford the Big Red Dog, compliments of Friends of MontanaPBS.
As well as getting hugs and taking pictures with Clifford, the Friends are bringing four activity stations with a musical theme. Families can sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge on the same day.The Whitefish Summer Reading Challenge is for all ages. Reading logs will be available beginning with Clifford’s visit, and tracking for incentives and prizes begins immediately. For more information, call the library at 862-9914.
Wildflower walk
Join Montana Native Plant Society, Flathead Chapter for a guided plant hike on the Whitefish Trail near Beaver Lake on Saturday, June 23. Meet at 5 p.m. and return at 7 p.m. to the Beaver Lake Trailhead.
Dr. Mirabai McCarthy, botany professor at Flathead Valley Community College, and student Danner Pickering, will lead a guided plant hike accentuating the flora surrounding the Beaver Lake area of the Whitefish Trail system. In recent years McCarthy and Pickering have surveyed the vegetation on the lands accessed by the Whitefish Legacy Trail system and produced a wildflower guide to aide in plant identification.
