The Flathead Hot Shots, an elite group of firefighters trained for working in rough conditions, fell victim to a lightning strike near Tally Lake. Two members were hit by the lighting, though neither suffered any long term effects.

June 11, 1998

For the third time, the Olney-Bissell School District failed to pass a $16,000 levy for the school. The levy would have helped save programs and staff the district could no longer afford.

30 years ago

June 8, 1988

Whitefish’s fireworks were up in the air after a shortage of funds threatened to shut down the Fourth of July show. Only about $150 of donated funds had been collected, well short of the $2,400 needed for the show.

40 years ago

June 8, 1978

By a 3-2 vote, the Whitefish City Council voted to deny annexing 120 acres on East Lakeshore Drive. The decision came out of concerns for annexing citizens without being able to provide adequate city services.

50 years ago

June 13, 1968

About 400 people attended the town’s first “Battle of the Bands,” hosted by the Whitefish Jaycees. Several bands, including “Shades of Gray” and “Discos” participated in the contest, which was judged based on musical talent, showmanship, originality, appearance, and audience appeal.
