WMS students win annual writing contest

The Lambda Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Women’s Honorary Teacher Society recently announced the winners of their annual Writing Contest for students in fifth- through eighth-grade.
The topic for this year’s essay was “How important is respect in our lives and do you think people in our society are respectful enough of each other? Why?” Students submitted many interesting and often awe-inspiring poems and essays on the topic. The winning entries were read, and the prizes were presented on April 12 at the Whitefish School District Board Room. Students, parents, teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma members were present for the awards ceremony.
First place winners were awarded $30, second place received $20 and third place was given $10.
Winners in the fifth- and sixth-grade division include; in first place Olivia Genovese, sixth-grade; a tie for second place between Adam Healy, sixth-grade, and Isabelle Cooke, sixth-grade; and in third place Emi Qunell, sixth-grade.
In the seventh- and eighth-grade division winners were, in first place seventh-grader Grace Fremont-Smith, in second place seventh-graders Alma Harding and Ava Menodza tied, and in third place seventh-graders Selah Hagler tied with Kelly Howeth.
Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma would like to thank the students and teachers from throughout the Flathead Valley for their participation in the contest and for their commitment to writing.
