Fourth Of July Tourney

The Fourth of July tournament was once again a tremendous success due to the organization and management of Tim Olson’s Golf Professional staff at Whitefish Lake Golf Club. I heard several comments that this is the best-run tournament in the state and I would have to agree. Congrats to the all winners in the various flights and especially to Jasi Acharya the women’s champ, and holder of a new course record 63 on the South Course, and to Cory Mehl for his come from behind victory on the final day. The best finish by a WLGC members were Coral Schulz for women and Connor Rooney for the men.

Shawn Tucker celebrated his birthday by winning the Men’s Derby on Thursday night with his partner Joey Moore.

Club Championship

Registration

The Annual WLGC Club Championship is set for Aug. 4 and 5 and entry forms are now available in the Golf Shop. This popular event will be divided into divisions for juniors, women, seniors and regular categories. There will be flights based on handicaps so there is a spot for everyone that wishes to play and has an established handicap. Call 862-5960 for more information. Prizes will be awarded for all flights and live music will be provided on the deck following Sunday’s round. Hole in One Harley being offered as well.

Member/Guest Tournament

It is definitely tournament time at WLGC with the Annual Member/Guest event set for Aug. 25 and 26. This two day event is very popular and will fill quickly so contact your non-member guest and get ready for the big event. The first day will be a two person net best ball while day two is a modified Stapleford format where you are assigned a point system based on your handicap. Divisions are provided for teams based on handicaps with both men and women for all two-person teams participating. Seniors may play the “gold” tees provided their combined age and handicap are 80 or more.

Putting with Soft Hands

Players often wonder why they make putts on the practice green but not on the course. My suggestion is that when on the practice green your hands and arms remain relaxed, but once you feel some pressure on the course we all tend to tighten up the muscles and restrict a natural stroke. Get out of your own way, relax, pick a line and make the stroke, you will be surprised at how many more putts you will drop.
