Speech gets second ahead of state tourney
Whitefish Speech and Debate is hitting its stride heading into the Class A State Tournament.
Whitefish placed second overall at the Western A Divisional Tournament over the weekend, with champions in two events.
The duo of Zach Ade and Ian Caltabiano took gold in policy debate, and Grace Benkelman won memorized public address.
Dani Mayeaux and Ali Hirsch took third behind Caltabiano and Ade in policy debate, and Zoe Dugan and Seth Carmichael also took third in public forum debate.
Danika Tintzman took second in humorous interpretation as well.
Whitefish qualified 27 out of 30 slots for the state tournament.
“The students balanced finals with the pressure of Divisionals well,” head coach Sara Mueller said.
State will be at Corvallis on Friday and Saturday.
