Respect requested after vandalism of Nativity scene

I was deeply troubled to hear from our pastor that the outdoor Nativity scene at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Whitefish was vandalized for the second year in a row and that a decision was made to discontinue the display during the Christmas season. I truly have never understood vandalism, which is nothing other than the pure disregard and disrespect of someone else’s property. I feel sorry for the lives and souls of the individuals that have been so emptied of good that they find amusement in breaking the arms off of religious statues. Is this really entertainment that brings you joy?

St. Charles Borromeo parish has been a loving Whitefish community member since 1907 providing assistance to the needy, feeding the hungry, and providing spiritual help to those seeking it. In a town that advocates “love lives here,” I hope that everyone in this community helps to foster an understanding of respect for those that choose to celebrate Christmas. This is not a plea, a command, or a reason to convert to any religion. It’s simply a request to respect others regardless of your beliefs.

And for those that broke the statues of St. Joseph and the baby Jesus, I will pray that you find some good with which to fill your lives.
