The Lady Dogs were right in it against Polson Saturday evening, but just couldn’t find the three points they needed late in the game.

An Annisa Brown layup off a loose ball got the Lady Dogs within three with 42 seconds to go, down 51-48.

Whitefish got multiple chances to tie the game but couldn’t connect, and fouling to stop the clock gave the Pirates two more points at the free throw line and the 53-48 win.

Whitefish was up 10 points in the third before Polson came roaring back to tie things up with five minutes to go in the third at 44 points apiece.

Brown led Whitefish in a breakout scoring night with 19 points.

Kaelyn Smith tallied 19 of her own for Polson.

Friday night’s game against Libby didn’t go in the Lady Dogs’ favor either.

Down 26-22 at half, Whitefish came out of the locker room and only managed a single point in the third quarter.

That quarter negated solid scoring totals — 12, 10 and nine in each of the other quarters — and put Libby ahead for the 47-32 win.

Payton Kastella led the team with nine points on a trio of threes.

Whitefish heads over to Stevensville to take on the Southwest A opponent Thursday. On Monday they’ll host a make-up game against Frenchtown and the next day they’ll host conference opponent Ronan.

Both those games will be played at 7:15 p.m.
