Free Nordic skiing
Glacier Nordic Club is celebrating National Winter Trails Day with free ski passes, rental equipment, a naturalist tour and lessons at the Glacier Nordic Center at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Come on out and get some outdoor exercise and learn about cross-country skiing. There will be free 45-minute beginner lessons offered on the hour and free two-hour demo rentals available. For lesson reservations call the Nordic Shop at 862-9498. Local naturalist, Dave Streeter will lead a two-hour ski from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. focusing on the flora and fauna of the area for intermediate and better skiers. Wii bowling
Whitefish Community Center invites folks to participate in a session of Nintendo Wii bowling on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. The event is free. For questions call 862-4923.
Book sale
The Whitefish Library Association will be holding its semi-annual book sale in the Heckathorn Community Room Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20 from noon-5 p.m. There will be a large selection of fiction, non-fiction, children, large print books and media to choose from. Included in the sale will be donated art work. The library is able to have this fundraiser because of the generosity of library users across the valley and all proceeds will benefit the Whitefish Community Library.
Documentary
The documentary “TOMORROW” will be shown at the Whitefish Community Library on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. The documentary sets out to showcase alternative and creative ways of viewing agriculture, economics, energy and education. The event is free and open to the public. For further information call 862-1629.
Las Cafeteras
The Whitefish Theatre Company presents Las Cafeteras, a dynamic ensemble of musicians known for their bold fusion of traditional Latin American folk rhythms with the attitude of urban worldbeat. Las Cafeteras will perform their show on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for students with reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office, 1 Central Ave., Whitefish, or by calling 862-5371 or online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org. This show is sponsored by the WTC Board of Directors. A free outreach concert for local students is sponsored by Ann and Paul Jeremiassen.
Glacier Symphony
The Glacier Symphony will bring two outstanding young soloists to the stage for a concert for the entire family on Jan. 20 at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. The concert will include both classical pieces and popular movie music from “Lord of the Rings,” “Titanic” and “Star Wars.”
Tanner Jorden, who recently won the Junior Division of the Montana Association of Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artists Competition, and young trumpet sensation Natalie Dungey, from Seattle, will perform.
Tickets are available in a range of prices and seating tiers. Youth through grade 12 are admitted free to this Masterworks Series concert. Tickets can be purchased online at www.glaciersymphony.org and at the Glacier Symphony Box Office by calling 406-407-7000.
Documentary
The documentary “GENERATION ZAPPED” will be shown Thursday, Jan. 25 at The Chiropractor. In the film scientists, physicians and health researchers discuss the health impacts from radiation from wireless devices. Skijoring
The Whitefish Winter Carnival Ski Joring committee has announced that the 2018 skijoring competition will be Jan. 27-28 and will be produced in partnership with the Big Mountain Ranch on the scenic and historic Voerman homestead just east of Whitefish off of Voerman Road about 1 mile east of the Whitefish airport. A practice session for competitors will be Jan. 21 noon-3 p.m. For more information contact Mike Righetti at 406-253-9911.
Try Skating for Free
The Glacier Skate Academy will host “Try Figure Skating For Free” at the Stumptown Ice Den in Whitefish on Saturday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 24 from 5:15-6:15 p.m. for ages 4- 12. Event includes ice time, skate rental, 15-minute group lesson, and hot chocolate. Group lessons will be provided by Glacier Skate Academy at 5:15 p.m., so please arrive at least 15 minutes early to rent skates. Skate rentals donated by Stumptown Ice Den.
