Winter adventures offer chance to explore wilderness

Join Montana Wilderness Association on an educational outing in northwest Montana this winter.
Their programs offer wonderful opportunities to explore, learn, and enjoy northwest Montana’s wildlands with fellow adventurers who share a love for the outdoors.
This year, MWA will offer six hikes and educational opportunities across northwest Montana that are free and open to the public:
- Saturday, Jan. 20: Avalanche Awareness snowshoe at Flatiron Mountain out of Libby
- Saturday, Jan. 27: Wildlife and Winter Ecology Educational Snowshoe with Swan Valley Connections out of Condon
- Saturday, Feb. 24: Winter Survival Skills Workshop with Ravenwood Outdoor Education Center near Columbia Falls
- Saturday, March 3: Avalanche Awareness Snowshoe with the Flathead Avalanche Center near Whitefish/Olney
- Saturday, March 10: Ross Creek Cedars Snowshoe with Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness near Noxon
Participants should come prepared for winter weather conditions by bringing proper apparel, warm clothing, water, snacks and a sack lunch. Snowshoes may also be provided if needed. Hikes range in difficulty from easy to strenuous.
