Little Guy Wrestling signups this month
Whitefish Wrestling Club will be having signups for the 2018 Montana Little Guy season on Friday, Jan. 26, in the Whitefish High School Gym/Event Center from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
The Montana Little Guy season will start Feb. 12 and go for six weeks ending March 24. Cost for participation is $35 for those in kindergarten through fifth grade and $50 for junior high wrestlers in sixth through eighth grade. Cost includes a T-shirt for the wrestlers to keep and the use of club shoes and singlet. The additional cost for junior high wrestlers helps with travel expenses that will be associated with the wrestling program.
Registration forms will also be available at school offices or at open mat every Tuesday and Thursday, 6-7 p.m., in the upstairs gym of the Whitefish Middle School.
Whitefish Wrestling Club is open to all students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Scholarships are available for those that may need financial assistance.
Wrestlers are separated by age groups based on the age of the wrestler at the beginning of the season and their weight.
PeeWee is kindergarten — regardless of age — and younger; beginner is ages 6, 7, and 8; novice is ages 9 and 10; middle is ages 11 and 12; junior is ages 13 and 14.
Junior high wrestlers in grades sixth through eighth practice in the upstairs gym of the Whitefish Middle School on Monday through Thursday from 3:45-5:15 p.m. and participate in Junior High competitions. Those that choose to participate in Little Guy competitions will be entered in their appropriate age group.
Middle and novice wrestlers fifth grade and younger, will practice Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:45-5:15 p.m. in the Whitefish High School wrestling room.
Beginner and PeeWee wrestlers will practice Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:45-5:15 p.m. in the Whitefish High School wrestling room.
The Whitefish High School wrestling room is the metal building on the south side of the high school track.
Competitions are held on Saturdays, locations are yet to be determined. Competitions are encouraged, but not required for participation.
