Dogs fight hard for wins in Post Falls
The Whitefish wrestlers held their own at the River City Duals in Post Falls, Idaho, going 3-2 over the weekend.
The Bulldogs took down Post Falls, Shadle Park and West Valley, while falling to Gonzaga Prep and Bonners Ferry.
A few more weight classes opened up in the tournament that the team couldn’t fill, so forfeits didn’t help with the scoring total in some of the duals.
However, there were still some standouts from the Whitefish side.
Both Nate Buckley (120) and Jack Eisenbarth (145) won out their matches for the weekend, continuing their strong performance throughout the season.
And in the West Valley dual, head coach Ryan Boyle said the team held its own in one of the closest competitions he’s seen.
The two schools ended up tied, and had to work their way down different scoring criteria to determine a winner.
Eventually they had to choose a winner based on most first takedowns, and the Dogs won out.
“It came down to every single thing that every competitor did, it was really nice to see how it all worked together,” Boyle said. “It was the tightest dual I’ve been a part of.”
Earlier in the week the Bulldogs took on Glacier in a crosstown match on Tuesday.
The Wolfpack got the win, 50-18.
Dean Kellogg (113), Buckley and Eisenbarth all had pins in that dual.
This week Whitefish heads down to Belgrade for the Class A Duals, where they’ll get to see the best team from all over the state.
Boyle said heading into Friday, the focus is going to be on recovery and fixing the little details that will help his team succeed.
“We just need to compete. Overall, we have a lot of opens, so it’s individually, how competitive can we get,” Boyle said.
“We’re still tweaking the things we do, maybe showing some new things here and there, but right now it’s just about getting better at what we do.”
