Four years after an injury cut Maggie Voisin’s Olympic plans short, she’s back.

Voisin, 19, qualified for her second Olympic Winter Games on Saturday with a second-place finish in the slopestyle skiing competition at the U.S. Grand Prix event at Snowmass in Aspen, Colorado.

She’ll join the U.S. Olmpic team for the 2018 Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, which will runs Feb. 9-25.

Last year she won a qualifying event at Mammoth Mountain in California, and Saturday’s second-run score of 89.00 secured her spot on the team.

Kristin Voisin, Maggie’s mother, told the Pilot Monday locking in her spot on the team has been a big relief.

“I mean we knew she pretty much had that spot to go, but after this weekend, seeing her on the podium and actually securing her spot, she was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m just going to go out and ski and have fun now,’” her mother said.

Next on Voisin’s list is the final Olympic qualifier in Mammoth on Jan. 20. On Jan. 21, the U.S. Olympic team will officially be announced, and soon after she’ll be on her way to South Korea.

After qualifying for the Olympics in 2014, Voisin suffered a broken leg during a training run on the day of opening ceremonies and wasn’t able to compete.

Going into this year’s Games, Voisin’s mother said she thinks Maggie is feeling good and ready to perform.

“She’s just in a really good space, mentally, spiritually, physically, so she’s going into it with some experience and I think it will just be different all around,” she said. “She’s got a heart of gold, and it’s been a journey for sure.”

“I’m just really proud of her.”
