Yetis, penguins and Viking divas all made appearances Sunday for the Whitefish Winter Carnival coronation ceremony Saturday at the O’Shaughnessy Center.

During the event, Paul Johannsen was named King Ullr LIX and Lani Johnson was crowned Queen of Snows. Both are longtime Whitefish volunteers and have been involved with Winter Carnival for many years.

Prime Minister Jeff Raper and Duchess of Lark Stephanie Skinner were knighted during the event.

Carnival King Ullr LVIII Ross Strauser and Queen of the Snows Sue Strauser, who served beginning in 2017, also bid their farewell and gave thanks for those who supported them during their reign.

Princess Freya and Prince Frey will be named during half-time at the Bulldogs basketball game on Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Whitefish High School.

Skijoring is planned Jan. 27-28.

The main carnival events take place Feb. 2-3 including the Penguin Plunge, a pie social and Grand Parade. This year’s theme is “Fly Like An Eagle.”
