Lady Dogs force OT against Bravettes

With just seconds to go and down two in Thursday’s matchup with Flathead, Ashton Ramsey stepped to the line with a chance to force overtime.

She nailed the first, then the second, and the Lady Dogs had a chance to steal their second win of the season from their big-sister Class AA rival.

Woes at the free throw line plagued both teams, however, and Flathead pulled away 11-7 in overtime, seven of those coming at the line, to take the win and avoid the upset.

The Bravettes’ Mary Heaton scored six of her 20 points in the extra period.

Whitefish led at half 21-11 before going scoreless in the third to give Flathead the two-point lead heading into the fourth.

Claire Carloss led the team with eight points and Marlee Bender chipped in seven.

The rest of the week wasn’t any easier for the Lady Dogs.

Last Tuesday Whitefish headed to Ronan, coming home with a 20-point loss at the hands of the Lady Chiefs.

Payton Kastella led the team with 14 points in a breakout performance.

Then on Saturday the girls hosted Hamilton for a Northwest A-Southwest A battle.

Whitefish couldn’t get much going early on and fell 62-34 to the Lady Broncs. Bender led the team with nine.

The Lady Dogs will head over to Columbia Falls for a Thursday night rivalry matchup before traveling to Browning on Saturday. Thursday’s game will start at 6 p.m. at Columbia Falls High School.
