This January the local Feat x Feet tap group will be celebrating 20 years of dancing and music when the Whitefish youth tap ensemble performs its annual winter show titled Rhythm to the Soul.
Shows are Jan. 7 at 4 p.m., Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 13 at 8 p.m., and Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center downtown.
The show was named by Emma Binstein, who is joining the ensemble for her last final steps with Feat x Feet.
“I chose the title of the show because the rhythm of the beat runs through my soul and to my feet, thus the sole of the foot is used,” she said.
Binstein is a senior at Whitefish High School and hopes to attend Oregon State, where she plans to study interior design. She has been dancing with Feat x Feet for 12 years.
“It has changed my life and let me get out of my comfort zone,” she said. “There is no better feeling than smiling because you’re actually feeling the happiness flow through your soul to your feet.”
Ashley Smith is the owner and artistic director for Feat x Feet. She’s been bringing tap to the Flathead for the past 20 years.
“It’s a really amazing coming together of music and our local students all on one stage,” she said of the show. “It’s very unique and upbeat. Emma is a dynamic dancer with a smile that lights up the stage as much as her feet does”
The show is sponsored by Glacier Bank, Potthoff Dentistry, Mann Mortgage, The Village Shop, Whitefish Study Center, Montana Estate Keepers and Tupelo Grill.
Also joining the tap ensemble on stage will be the tap school kids performing at the Sunday matinée shows.
