Youth Basketball program teaches girls fundamentals
Ninety girls in grades three through six recently participated in the Whitefish Youth Basketball program.
The newly formed, nonprofit organization is helping to promote and instill the love of basketball in local youth athletes, according to organizer Stacy Kelch. The program strives to include all children as it teaches the fundamental skills of basketball, the importance of academics, sportsmanship, teamwork and personal responsibility.
“It was a very successful program and one we look forward to growing with boys and girls youth basketball,” Kelch said. “Whitefish Youth Basketball is hoping to conduct boys and girls summer camps, youth basketball programs throughout the school year and even small youth tournaments in the future.”
A list of sponsors who have donated to the program to aide in the purchasing of T-shirts, balls, insurance, and overall costs for the program, include: Tim Murphy State Farm Insurance, Whitefish Police Protective Association, Glacier Bank, Franks Westside Exxon, Whitefish Eye Center, First Interstate Bank, Whitefish Credit Union, Glacier Medical Associates, Brahma Concrete, Sunrise Builders and Dairy Queen.
