The Flathead Fusion girls 14U hockey team traveled the snowy and icy roads to Miles City this past weekend to compete in two final league contests each against Miles City and Bozeman.

The Fusion compiled a 2-1-1 record for the weekend, despite playing short with six team members missing due to schedule conflicts.

On Saturday morning the Fusion took a game from a feisty Miles City Generals team and won 4-1, followed by coming from behind and topping the Bozeman Ice Dogs 7-4.

On Sunday morning the Ice Dogs came out on fire and took a 3-0 lead before the Fusion started competing, climbing back into the game but not with enough time to take the lead back, falling 2-3.

With road conditions a huge concern, the final game was played back to back in order to get traveling teams headed home. A very physical and fast battle ensued, with a 3-3 tie game result at the final buzzer.

Scoring goals for the Fusion were Kenzie Baker with nine, Nya Barber-Castro three, Mariah Dickey two goals and an assist, Josie Voeller and Faith Wentzel one apiece, and assists tallied by Grace Wentzel and Carmen Eddy.

Goalie Courtney Klemann was outstanding in net facing 113 shots on goal in four games and making 104 saves.

Next up for the defending state champion Lady Fusion is the Girls State tournament in Bozeman beginning on Friday, where the local girls will face Moscow and Bozeman in their first round games.
