Lady Dogs fight through tough week
The Lady Dogs fought hard but only finished with a single win during a packed week of play.
Last week Whitefish fell to Ronan, Browning and Corvallis.
With a 21-19 score at half against Ronan on Tuesday, it looked like the Lady Dogs could hold on for the Northwest A conference victory.
However, Ronan outscored them by 11 points in the second half for the easy 13-point victory. Marlee Bender led Whitefish scorers with 13.
Things weren’t any easier Thursday against Browning, who took the Dogs down by a score of 77-38.
On Friday the Lady Dogs dropped another tight battle against Corvallis.
A slow first quarter hurt the team, as Whitefish only netted nine points to Corvallis’ 20. Whitefish even outscored their opponent across the next three quarters, but that wasn’t enough to make up the deficit.
Corvallis took the win 73-65.
Payton Kastella led the team with 14 points, while Claire Carloss added 11 and Annisa Brown had 10.
This week they’ll host their rival Columbia Falls Wildkats on Thursday for Senior Night.
Brown and Baileigh Krause are the two seniors on this year’s team.
The Wildkats currently sit atop Class A power polls as No. 1, with a 15-1 record.
That game will start at 6 p.m.
