Future improvements planned for golf course

Improved short game

practice area

Whitefish Lake Golf Club is in the early stages of planning for an improved short game practice area behind No. 1 green on the South Course. The new design currently includes another small green that will have a green side bunker for practice with those shots. The current chipping green bunker will go away and the green will be enlarged to allow for a variety of chips and pitches. In the new design all of the shots will be limited to no more than roughly 50 yards max.

New putting green for South Course

Also in the early planning stages is a new enlarged practice putting green on the South Course. The new putting green will be twice the size of the current one. The cart path will be moved to the area adjacent to the practice range net to allow for room to expand the putting surface of the new green to the northwest.

Member/Guest big success

The annual member guest two-day tournament was a huge success with 68 teams competing in the event. At the end of day one a steak barbecue was served to the participants and guests along with live music on the deck featuring Karla West and her western band. Local WLGC member Chuck Martin is the drummer in the very talented band. After dinner a derby was held featuring the top 10 teams.

Chipping against the collar

If your ball comes to rest against the longer grass at the edge of the collar in the fringe, don’t necessarily grab your putter for the next shot. Consider using one of your hybrid clubs as it will slide through the longer grass and get the ball rolling toward the hole without hanging up. Practice this shot before trying it on the course and you will find it to be a great shot to have in your bag.

Board Member openings

Two new board member slots will be open this coming year with Don Hanson and Dennis McConnell completing their three-year terms. Tier One Members who have been with the WLGC for five years or more are eligible to run for the open board positions. Contact Terry Nelson if you might be interested in running for a three year term on the board of directors.
