Snow and Ice Fest

| August 21, 2018 1:40 PM

Five local nonprofits who share a passion for winter recreation are collaborating to host a Snow and Ice Fest event at Mountain Trails Park in Whitefish on Thursday, Aug. 23.

The five organizations, all participating in the Whitefish Community Foundation’s Great Fish Challenge, include Dream Adaptive Recreation, Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation, Friends of the Flathead Avalanche Center, Glacier Nordic Club and Stumptown Ice Den. Volunteers will be present with information about each organization, and explaining the process of donating through the Great Fish Challenge.

The event will feature free burgers and hot dogs, free beer and great music by Dr. J and the Botanicals and Dean and Ian. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the food, beverages and music will continue until 8 p.m. Soccerballs, volleyballs and Frisbees are sure to be flying in the park, as kids are welcome to attend with their families. In recognition of the common bond with winter, there will also be a “snow” pile provided by the Stumptown Ice Den.

“We had a great time planning this event,” said Tim Hinderman from the Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation. “It’s going to be a fun opportunity for members and supporters of our organizations to get to know each other while sharing stories from last winter and expectations for next winter.”

Mountain Trails Park is located on Wisconsin Avenue a half-mile north of the viaduct, adjacent to the Stumptown Ice Den and Ski Heritage Center ski museum.
