Show offers chance to watch artists create

| August 7, 2018 2:54 PM

Heart of the West, Nancy Cawdrey Gallery and Cypress Yard will host the Heart of the West Art Show: Gatherers’ Edition Aug. 10-11 in Whitefish.

The event includes live music, artist demonstrations and several nationally renowned artists attending and exhibiting. Two of the attending artists, award-winning Denver artist Michael Ome Untiedt and Coeur d’Alene aviation artist John Reinhold, will also be leading painting and marketing workshops.

After organizing several art shows and auctions in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Bozeman over the past few years, show-runners and father-son team Steve and Morgan Cawdrey decided to bring the show home.

“The Flathead Valley has a fantastic artistic community supported by discerning patrons of the arts, and we love being part of that and living here,” Morgan said. “Now that we have this beautiful gallery and venue in Whitefish, it made perfect sense to bring the show here to expose the Valley to some of our favorite artists we have worked with in the past. This show is meant to complement the concurrent Huckleberry Days Arts Festival in Whitefish and add high-quality fine art to the draw of the weekend.”

In a departure from previous shows with 50-140 artists attending, this Heart of the West Art Show is starting with few carefully selected artists and growing from there. They are partnered with local nonprofit Western Masters Inc., which serves and supports regional emerging and established working artists through promotion and business and marketing coaching.

There is no cost to attend and all events are open to the public. Schedule:

Aug. 8-9

Michael Ome Untiedt will hold a two-day art marketing workshop designed for any artist who wishes to better understand the often opaque art market and increase their recognition and sales. Cost is $258.

John Reinhold will hold a two-day oil painting workshop focusing on the understanding of color (wavelength) and light (energy). This workshop is for the beginner to the professional. Cost is $258.
