It was a windy and rainy morning, but the Whitefish track team managed a second and third place finish at the Columbia Falls Invitational on Saturday.

The girls finished second behind Columbia Falls while the boys took third behind Frenchtown and Columbia Falls.

Head coach Derek Schulz said he was pleased with how his team performed over the weekend.

“Things went pretty well minus the ferocious winds out of the canyon in Columbia Falls. We competed pretty well in some pretty tough conditions,” Schulz said. “We didn’t get a lot of results but we did compete real well.”

The boys were led by first place finishes by Lee Walburn in the 110 hurdles (16:45) and 300 hurdles (43.60) and Sam Menicke’s first place in triple jump (39-7).

Keegan Wold took third in discus (139-0) and Jack Eisenbarth took fourth in long jump (19-1) as well.

For the girls, Laren Schulz’s second place in the 200 (28.90) and Emily Buckmaster’s second in the 100 led the way. Mikenna Els also took fourth in the 400. In distance running, Ella Greenberg took third in both the 800 (2:39.90) and the 1,600 (5:41.99).

This week the team split off to two separate Top 10 competitions on Tuesday after press time.

Three athletes, Walburn in the 300 hurdles, Wold in discus and Els in the 400, qualified for the Missoula Top 10, while about 30 other Bulldogs will headed over to the Eureka Top 10.

On Saturday they’ll host this year’s A.R.M. Invitational at Whitefish High School.

Schulz said he’s hoping for nice weather and good competition with some teams from the east the Dogs don’t get to see too often.

“This meet is one that’s been real competitive,” he said. “It’s good timing in the track season and I hope the weather cooperates for us. We take a lot of pride in our home meet.”

Kalispell Ford will host their Drive 4 UR School fundraiser event at Whitefish High School on Saturday during the A.R.M. track meet. Kalispell Ford will donate $20 to the Bulldogs Booster Club for every Ford vehicle test driven. Last year over $2,500 was donated as part of the program.
