The Bulldogs tennis team continued their early season success Friday with a sweep over Libby.

Whitefish took Libby down 7-0 just a week after beating the Loggers 6-1.

Head coach Chris Schwaderer said he’s encouraged by what he’s seeing from his players already.

“We did really well,” Schwaderer said. “I think we’re in great shape, the kids are looking really sharp right now and I’m really impressed, considering how relatively early it is in the season and how little time we’ve had on the court, I think they’ve really adapted well. They want to get better and they just look fantastic right now.”

Schwaderer said he’s been playing around with different lineups lately, switching his No. 1 and No. 2 singles around to see what fits best. It’s encouraging to see his team winning regardless of how he matches things up, he said.

This week Brendan Buls picked up the win at No. 1 while Eric Holdhusen won at No. 2.

“That’s kind of fun to know that as we get into the latter half of the season, we are reasonably secure in our No. 1 and 2 in both singles and doubles — I feel pretty confident in them. We just need to keep working at all the fine points and communication and hopefully it should come together,” he said.

This week Whitefish heads down to the Bitterroot for a competition-filled weekend.

On Friday they’ll take on Hamilton and Corvallis in duals, and on Saturday they’ll compete in the Bitterroot Invitational.

Schwaderer said this trip is usually the turning point for the season.

“The Bitterroot is kind of the crux of the season, I think that’s where a lot of things start to happen. It’s just late enough in the year that we start figuring out who we are,” Schwaderer said. “Historically, it’s that point where we just start to really move forward and get ourselves set up for divisionals and state and kind of get into that mindset.”
