Golf course scheduled to open Friday
Course Opening this Friday
Assuming we do not get another significant snow storm during this never ending winter, we do plan to open the North Course this Friday, April 20. This may be one of the latest opening dates ever for Whitefish Lake Golf Club, but the good news is the course is emerging in great shape. Tee times will be taken starting at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning providing the weather cooperates. Our hats go off to Dick Collins and his crew for getting the course ready this quickly as the snow is still melting. Even though we are open, players can expect to see some snow in the traditionally shady areas of the course. The new practice putting green on the North Course will need a few more weeks before it is ready for golf traffic this spring. The new putting green is looking really good and the sod is rooting down nicely.
Carts will most likely be confined to paths only to avoid damage to the still wet turf on the golf course. We ask that everyone follow the course rules for carts all season long.
Driving Range now open
Now is the chance to get your swing started off on the right track with some practice on the range. The new Calloway golf balls are in the machine and ready for your practice sessions. Our Golf Professional staff is back on duty and eager to schedule lessons for all levels of players.
Simulator Upgraded and Fantastic
The golf simulator at the course has been completed renovated with all new technology and hardware and offers an extremely effective location to work on your golf game or just have fun playing a variety of golf courses. Golf Professional, Christine Newton, manages the golf simulator and will gladly schedule a time for a lesson or to get rid of the winter rust in your swing. Call 250-3088 to make an appointment for the simulator.
Alignment Practice
Often we think we are properly aligned to hit the shot but most people naturally are aimed right of the target. When you are practicing use an alignment rod or a club shaft to help aim just to the left of the target. When you set up to the ball make sure your feet, hips, and shoulders are parallel to the rod or club. If you point the rod at the target you will most likely still be right of the intended line. This method of practice will help train your eyes to know when you are aimed correctly.
No Major Projects Planned for 2018
There are no major course changes or improvements planned to either course this season, but there are several cart path improvements on the docket. Cart paths are like roads and require regular maintenance and upkeep.
