Several Whitefish residents got the chance to speak with then Senator Barack Obama as he made his campaign tour through Montana. Obama spoke to a crowd of 7,500 in Missoula and met with Montanans over a beer in Butte.

April 9, 1998

Flathead County prosecutors got a new, high-tech tool in their arsenal as the county added in Geographic Information System technology. The GIS technology is a computerized mapping technique that could help add context to cases and provide more evidence.

April 13, 1988

Four months after making a proposal to bring the Flathead Valley Community College to Whitefish, organizers withdrew their plan. Through donations of land, money and services, organizers had estimated their plan for a Whitefish campus would’ve saved the college $2 million in construction.

40 years ago

April 13, 1978

A trailer park project proposed for the intersection of Highway 93 and Montana 40 got the axe from Flathead County Commissioners. The commissioners ruled that despite the need for cheaper housing, the trailer park would have an adverse impact on the area’s rural character.

50 years ago

April 11, 1968

Skiers in 1968 got some good news that local powderhounds wouldn’t mind hearing today — the resort was extending its season and staying open for an extra two weeks. The double chair lift and Poma Lift would continue to run while the T-Bar would not.
