North Course open through October
North Course Open until Oct. 31
The North Course will remain open until the end of October if the weather cooperates. As the days get shorter and the nights colder the window for play is greatly diminished with frost delays becoming an issue. Players are reminded that walking or driving a cart on the frost (frozen turf) can cause severe injury, or even death, to the turf grass as the frozen stems breakoff under the pressure of either a walker or cart. I happened to observe a course in Sun Valley last week where someone had driven a cart all the way up the fairways and tires had killed the turf.
Credit must be Used in Golf Shop
All credits earned during event play must be used in the Golf Shop prior to the end of October as it will not be carried forward. There is still a considerable inventory to choose from so stop in and shop to use up those credits. Don’t need anything, think Christmas shopping for relatives or friends.
Rounds Played at WLGC 2017
The long hot summer saw and slight increase in green fee rounds played at WLGC and a slight decrease in member rounds. We assume the member rounds were down due to the heat and smoke later in the season. The green fee round increase is most likely directly connected to the improved Canadian economy this past year. Members played 68 percent of all rounds this year with green fee players accounting for the balance. Play was much more evenly balanced between the North and South Courses this season even with the South having water issues early in the year.
New Lights for the Christmas Tree
The board of directors approved the expenditure to replace all the Christmas lights on the large Fir tree on the North Course putting green. The replacements are LED bulbs and will last much longer. A total of 1,000 feet of wiring is needed to cover the tree adequately. Look for the official lighting ceremony on Friday immediately following Thanksgiving.
