FVSEF screens 'Line of Descent' film to kick off season
FVSEF will screen Warren Miller’s film, “Line of Descent” on Nov. 4-5 as part of a fundraising event for the foundation.
The Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation is a valley-wide nonprofit youth organization that focuses on athletic, academic and personal excellence through educational skiing and ski racing programs. Throughout the ski season this column will feature skiing news, stories and announcements about events and happenings all centered on skiing in the Flathead.
FVSEF is also the creator and stewards of the soon-to-be-open Ski Heritage Center Museum in Whitefish. Watch this column for stories of our rich history of skiing in the Flathead and in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Whitefish Mountain Resort this year. With fresh snow on the mountain and a forecast of La Niña for this winter, there is no better way to kick off the ski season than with a showing of the new Warren Miller movie “Line of Descent.” This preseason kicker is a tradition that gets everyone stoked and anxious to get on our boards.
As a key fundraiser for the Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation, there will be two showings. On Nov. 4, the feature presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. On Nov. 5, the feature presentation begins at 4:30 p.m. with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. Both showings are at the O’Shaughnessy Center in downtown Whitefish.

The lineage of mountain lifestyle continues in Warren Miller Entertainment’s 68th full-length feature film, “Line of Descent,” presented by Volkswagen. In this year’s film, WME travels the globe, by land, air, and sea, exploring the ties that bind ski culture.
In Squaw Valley and Jackson Hole, WME visits skiing icons who have made the mountains their home and raised mini Moes and Moseleys of their own. Traveling to Norway, a Canadian ski patroller enjoys the company of his Norwegian brethren, and in the French Alps, native son Jean-Claude Killy’s legacy fills Val-D’Isere hearts with pride.

WME crews chase winter along the Beartooth Highway where a road trip via motorcycles takes athletes Kalen Thorien and Michael “Bird” Shaffer from Montana to Wyoming. And still to come, snowboarders Seth Wescott and Rob Kingwill will head to New Zealand to descend Mount Cook.
