| October 10, 2017 4:39 PM

Annual Meeting This Saturday

The Whitefish Lake Golf Club Inc. Annual Meeting is this Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. with a hosted brunch for all members interested in attending. Reports from various committees will be presented with and election of three new board members to be completed at the meeting. Jessica Tucker is running for the available seat for women with Scott Ringer, Rick Billuni and Dow Powell vying for the two seats open for the men’s three-year term.

World’s Hardest Tournament

The World’s Hardest golf tournament will be held this Saturday following the annual meeting and is set up as a two person scramble over a course that will challenge the golfers skill and patience. Expect to see hole locations in spots that you never will play during the regular season and holes that traverse across terrain that may or not be on the same traditional hole. It’s all designed to be fun and a great end of the year event.

New Putting Green

The North Course practice green’s renovation is moving along quiet smoothly with the local crew under Dick Collin’s direction progressing nicely. By the time this column hits the streets most of the new green should be sodded with T-1 Bentgrass. The staff has been working long hours and on weekends to complete the project before the weather deteriorates for the season.

Highway Construction Still Affecting Trees

Up to 14 trees along Highway 93 will have to be removed this fall due to root damage created during the highway construction over the last couple of years. New trees will be planted early next spring to replace the ones that are dead or dying. We anticipate using a mix of tree types during the replacement cycle. It was hope installing a retaining wall would prevent the loss of trees but try as they could the root damage still occurred resulting in the unfortunate losses.

South Course Closing Oct. 16

The South Course will close for the season on Monday, Oct. 16, but the North will remain open until the end of the month or weather dictates a sooner closing date.
