Community Center announces changes, including evening yoga
The Whitefish Community Center is announcing some changes, including its new website and new activities.
The center has launched its new website at www.whitefishcommunitycenter.org. Upcoming events and pictures are on the website.
“We are inviting visitors to explore our user-friendly and uncluttered site,” said Sandi Bellissimo, center board member, in a release. “Those that view our fresh new look can also take the opportunity to donate time, funds or postage stamps to the center.”
Webmaster for the site is Arri Sendzimir.
Bellissimo notes that annual dues for membership to the center are $10 and offers a monthly newsletter, updates on new classes, invitations to special luncheons, and birthday party announcements.
The center is offering a few new activities beginning in October.
The center is now offering a Tuesday evening yoga class. The class is free and begins at 5:30 p.m. lasting one hour.
Instructor Betty Kuropat has designed this class specifically for those community members that continue to work outside of the home, or have other obligations earlier in the day.
The class is Hatha Yoga, slightly different and somewhat more challenging than the gentle morning class Kuropat offers at the center on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m.
In addition, one evening each month (usually the last Tuesday) will be restorative yoga. This consists of relaxing poses using “props,” such as blankets, firm pillows, and foam blocks to support participants bodies.
Both styles are suitable for beginners with the modifications and instruction that Betty can provide.
Those attending the class are asked to bring a mat or strap if available.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 30, the center will feature a monthly “Lunch and Movie Magic” for $5 per person. Folks are invited to join the center for lunch and then stay for a matinée movie while enjoying some movie candy. Call the center to find out the movie of the month and lunch selection for the day.
The center is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the building is available to rent during evenings and weekends. The center has a hot lunch on weekdays at 11:30 a.m.
The center is located at 121 E. Second Street. For information, call 862-4923.
