Event raises funds for Sparrow's Nest house

| November 28, 2017 3:14 PM

A group of folks looking to support Sparrow’s Nest of NWMT will be spending the night away from the comfort of their homes to raise awareness and funds for unaccompanied homeless high school students during an event on Saturday, Dec. 9.

They will experience only one dimension of homelessness, for one night. They will not experience the uncertainty of having a place to sleep tomorrow, say organizers, feelings of insecurity and lack of safety that homeless high school students endure day after day.

They will sleep outside the St. Peter Lutheran Church, 201 Wisconsin Avenue in Whitefish from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Some will be sleeping outside the house, on the lawn in sleeping bags, others in their vehicles — much like some of the unaccompanied homeless high school students do on any given night.

The goal is to raise awareness surrounding the issue of unaccompanied homeless youth in the Flathead Valley and raise funds for Sparrow’s Nest’s Whitefish and Kalispell homes.

Sparrow’s Nest of NWMT is an organization based out of Kalispell that provides resources and safe housing for unaccompanied homeless high school students in the Flathead Valley. Their goal is to work with the community to help these students graduate from high school and become contributing and productive members of our community.

They are looking for sponsors as well as parties interested in joining them for the fundraiser. For more information or to sponsor, visit www.sparrowsnestnwmt.org, or call at 406-309-5196 or email at admin@sparrowsnestnwmt.org.
