Whitefish should stay out of U.S. Supreme Court case
I am a concerned American citizen and Montana resident. In reading of the article “Whitefish joins case before U.S. Supreme Court” on Oct. 25, I am against the actions of Whitefish City Council and City Attorney Angela Jacobs who recommend Whitefish to join this lawsuit. In where Jack Phillips, owner of ‘Masterpiece Cakeshop’ from Lakewood, Colorado, is being sued because he refused to bake a wedding cake for Charlie Craig and David Mullions.
I admire Phillips for standing on the Godly principles that this great country was founded on. Principles no American should forget.
If Craig and Mullion want to be gay, that’s their choice and freedom, I respect that. And if Phillips in good conscience can’t bake them a cake, I respect that. Craig and Mullion can buy a cake elsewhere?
I understand Whitefish has a non-discrimination ordinance, but I am truly embarrassed by Whitefish City Council’s involvement in this case. If we were to be honest with ourselves, this is really; agenda versus founding principles.
Alexander Hamilton (1795), holding a copy of our Federal Constitution said, “Now mark my words! So long as we are a young and virtuous people, this instrument will bind us together in mutual interest, mutual welfare and mutual happiness; but when we become old and corrupt it will bind us no longer.”
Phillips stands with the quiet majority on the founding principles that make this great country, and gave hope to the world. From the lips of Alexander Hamilton, we must ask: are we becoming old and corrupt?
