Glacier Climate Action group holding gala event fundraiser Nov. 17
Glacier Climate Action is holding a fundraiser, Save our Glaciers Gala, on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Glacier Climate Action is committed to the promotion of sustainable climate solutions through education, community engagement and activism. The all-ages family dance party will focus on raising awareness of behaviors citizens can practice every day to be part of the solution, and raising money for important local causes addressing climate change. Glacier Climate hopes to make the gala an annual event.
Birdland Jazz Combo will perform for the reception in the foyer starting at 6 p.m., followed by speakers Ryder Delaloye, Whitefish School District curriculum director; and Hilary Hutcheson, local fly-fishing guide representing Protect Our Winters, with the New Wave Time Trippers headlining the family dance party.
Black and white attire is encouraged, creative styles will be appreciated, but “Montana formal” or jeans is always acceptable. The evening will also include a raffle, a pie auction, beverages from Great Northern Brewing Co. and more.
Admission is $12 per person. Kids under 12 are free.
This year proceeds will benefit Whitefish School District’s Center for Sustainability and Entrepreneurship, an innovative educational center, providing applied learning experiences for K-12 students in energy, agriculture, forestry, natural resources, and entrepreneurship.
The “net zero” facility, planned to open in spring 2018, will be a living model. Working directly with community partners, students will gain real life experience with energy consumption, energy modeling and technologies, green building practices, and strategies for reducing the community’s carbon footprint.
