Glacier Twins have successful run on road, go 2-1
The Glacier Twins had a successful weekend against some tough competition, going 2-1 down in Bozeman.
On Saturday the Twins took on the Bozeman AA team but fell 8-0.
A single big inning for Bozeman put the game out of reach for his team, head coach Scott Murray said.
“We kind of let things get away from us. We gave up six runs in the fifth,” he said. “Things got away from us quick.”
On Sunday the Twins faced Bozeman A and Lewistown A, finding more success than the previous day.
The Twins grabbed an 8-4 victory over the Bozeman Bucks early in the day. Greyson Bistodeau and Tom Hellwig had two hits each, while Gunner Marsh doubled for the Twins and Hellwig belted a triple.
Coby Clark-Dickenson, Hellwig and Marsh also had two RBIs each.
In the weekend finale, the Twins dominated Lewistown 18-5.
Clark-Dickenson went 5-5 for five scores, a double and a homer. The Twins racked up 23 hits, and eight players had at least a single.
Ryan Veneman, Hellwig and Dan Seymour were all 3 for 5, Quintin Schriver had three hits in three plate appearances and Gunnar Marsh went 3 for 4.
Murray said he’s happy with how his team performed after the loss on Saturday, but the focus now needs to be keeping those big innings from happening.
“We have to stay focused for seven or nine innings,” he said. “We can’t let those little things bother us, we just have to dig down deep and work harder. We’ll clean that up. If we can play six out of seven innings, then we can play seven out of seven or nine out of nine.”
This weekend’s schedule features a series against the Kalispell Lakers AA club. On Saturday the teams will play in Kalispell at 7 p.m., and on Sunday the Twins will host the Lakers at the same time. The final game will come on Monday at 2 p.m. back in Kalispell.
Murray said keeping a team with strong base running under control will be key for his team this week.
“We gotta stop runners. That’s a running team, so we need to find a way to keep those guys close to the base and get our catcher some extra work,” he said.
