Season Opener

Tournament

This coming Saturday, May 13, is the Season Opener Tournament at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club. This annual fun event is based on a two-person team with the score recorded on the best net ball for each hole. Several divisions will be organized for men and women so grab a friend and sign-up today in the Golf Shop. Call 862-5060 for more details and to register your team. The entry fee is $40 per person and includes great prizes and a lunch after the round.

New Rules for Golf Coming

On Jan. 1, 2019, the rules of golf will be changed by the USGA and R&A to hopefully simplify some of the more complicated rule situations and hopefully speed up the game. Dustin Johnson’s ruling concerning the movement of his ball on the putting green during the U.S. Open created the momentum for one new rule and clarification. In the past if the ball moved, it was deemed to have been caused by the player. Under the proposed change it has to be 95 percent certain that the player actually caused the ball to move otherwise there will not be a penalty. The time to look for a lost ball drops to three minutes instead of five currently. You will be able to take a drop out of a bunker if you wish by taking a two stroke penalty. All in all over 100 rules will be adapted, changed or clarified under the new rules being considered.
