High school music students shine at district festival
Forty bands, orchestras and choirs from nine schools participated in the District 1 Music Festival hosted by Flathead and Glacier high schools April 20-22.
Each entry was judged as either superior, excellent, good, fair or poor on a 1 to 5 scale.
Solos and ensembles receiving superior ratings qualify to attend the State Solo and Ensemble Festival in May. Following are results that were made available from the District Music Festival for Whitefish students:
- Superior performance and sight reading: Varsity band, orchestra, women’s choir.
- Excellent performance and superior sight reading: Concert choir, men’s choir.
- Superior band solos: Brendan Gibson, oboe; Jolene Green, tenor sax; Hunter Grimes, flute; Jessica Henson, flute; Eric Holdhusen, trumpet; Savannah Krause, flute.
- Superior orchestra ensembles: Sam Menicke and Casey Schneider, string duet; Jolene Green, Tucker Harrison, Talha Idiz and Matthew Perez, string quartet; Jolene Green and Matthew Perez string duet.
- Excellent orchestra ensembles: Emily Clark, Piper Howeth, Sophie Marchetti, Annie Nixon, hornpipe quartet; Annie Howeth, Adian McCann, Jeiven Pemberton, Kiersten Prestegaard and Ella Shaw, string quintet.
- Superior piano: Adia Saurey.
- Excellent piano: Julia Houston; Hans Mazur.
- Superior vocal solos: Zachary Ade, Abbygale Carson, Malachi Derks, Malia Van Dort, Caroline Dye, Erin Holien, Delaney Lewis, Kess Nelson.
- Excellent vocal solos: Sukma Aryanti, Gillian Broughton, Emily Freudenberger, Walter Pearson, Aubrey Tattum, Casey Valez.
