Bike/walk to work week events

| May 9, 2017 4:33 PM

A Whitefish group supporting active transportation is celebrating National Bike to Work Week with a number of events.

Connect Whitefish is planning events to encourage folks to walk or bike to work during the week of May 15-19.

During the week, the group is holding a social media contest. Those who mark their posts of biking or walking on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #connectwhitefish, will be entered to win a daily prize of a bike cup holder courtesy of Glacier Cyclery and Great Northern Cycles.

On Wednesday, May 17 is Bike/Walk to School Day when students are encouraged to bike or walk to school. Free bike lights courtesy of North Valley Hospital and the Flathead County Health Department will be given out to students who arrive via bike.

On Friday, May 19 is Bike/Walk to Work Day. Connect Whitefish will be giving out a free cup of coffee with your own mug and fruit at the O’Shaughnessy Center from 7:45-9:15 a.m. Glacier Cyclery will be on hand to do any basic tune-ups. For those commuting on the north or south side of town, Cowgirl Coffee will also give a free cup of coffee to bike commuters with their own mug.

In addition, Bike Walk Montana is hosting the Montana Commuter Challenge, a friendly competition to see who can walk, bike or ride transit the most in the state through the month of May. Workplaces and individuals are encouraged to sign up and log their daily miles. For more information, visit MTCommuterChalleng.org.

Connect Whitefish is a community-based group whose vision is to ensure active transportation and healthy lifestyles for the Whitefish community through year-round biking and walking opportunities.
