| May 2, 2017 3:11 PM

Former Whitefish school teacher and business owner William E. Moir (Bill) passed away in his sleep April 24, 2017 at HighGate Senior Living in Billings with his family at his side.

Bill was born to Gough and Katherine Moir on Aug. 4, 1930 in Seattle, Washington. His family moved to Mount Vernon, Washington, while in his youth and he would later graduate from high school there. After high school, Bill attended Skagit Valley Junior College and played football. He then transferred to Western Montana College in Dillon for an opportunity to play football at a higher level. This is where he met the love of his life, Margaret L. Clark (Peggy) and they would soon elope and start their life together.

His first teaching jobs were in Power and White Sulfur Springs. They had four sons, Dan of Beaumont, Texas, Mike of Canby, Oregon, Pat (deceased) and Tim (Mary) of Cody, Wyoming, six grandsons and three great-granddaughters.

Bill moved his family to College Station, Texas, in 1968 to earn his master’s degree in education. After completion of his degree, he moved the family back to Whitefish, where he would teach and become a business partner in Martin’s Cleaners and later the sole owner with his wife Peggy. Once retired, Bill spent many hours at the laundromat. After the sale of Martin’s Cleaners, Bill began delivering oxygen for Kalispell Medical. Bill and Peg moved to Cody, Wyoming, in 2015 and later relocated to Billings, for medical reasons.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth, son Patrick, and grandson Alex. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date in Whitefish.
