Lady Bulldogs get the sweep in Bitterroot

The Lady Bulldogs were at their best over the weekend, sweeping all four match-ups down in the Bitterroot Valley.

On Friday Whitefish took down Hamilton 7-0 and Corvallis 6-1 in a pair of duals.

Head coach Patrick Dryden was especially pleased with his team’s play against a strong Corvallis team.

“We had seven tiebreakers against Corvallis and we won all seven,” he said. “I thought that was pretty remarkable.”

Dryden pointed to key wins by some of the team’s younger talent, noting freshmen Olivia Potthoff and Claire Carloss for their big victories in tiebreaker sets.

He also used perseverance by Paint Intasuk, who lost her first set 6-0 but came back to win a tiebreaker, as exemplifying his biggest priority for the team.

“Those are the types of things that we’re trying to emphasize right now, that matches are never over,” he said.

On Saturday the Lady Dogs took on Butte Central and Stevensville in the Bitterroot Invitational. Whitefish beat Butte Central 4-2 and Stevensville 6-1 in the round robin tournament.

Hannah Madsen, the No. 1 singles player for the Lady Dogs, handedly picked up wins in all four of her matches over the weekend.

“She went 4-0 on the weekend against some pretty good competition. She just continues to improve,” Dryden said.

Whitefish has a full schedule this week, taking on Libby in a makeup dual Tuesday after press time. On Thursday they’ll host Columbia Falls at FVCC at 11:30 a.m. and on Saturday they’ll have rematches with Hamilton at 11 a.m. and Corvallis at 3 p.m. at FVCC.

Dryden said he’s happy to get the court time this week, especially after last week’s wet weather, and the focus is to constantly keep improving.

“We’ve got a very busy schedule this week so hopefully we continue to improve. I think we’ve shown a lot of improvement through matches, but unfortunately we aren’t getting a lot of outdoor practice time,” he said. “That’s making it challenging.”
