'Love Song' quirky romantic comedy
As part of the Black Curtain Theatre series, the Whitefish Theatre Company presents “Love Song” written by John Kolvenbach.
This quirky romantic comedy will be performed on March 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
“Love Song” follows the story of Beane. Beane is an eccentric outsider and no one, including his well-meaning sister, Joan, or his brother-in-law, Harry, can seem to get through to him. Following a burglary at Beane’s apartment, however, Joan is baffled to find her brother blissfully happy and in love with his assailant, Molly. Suddenly all the love songs make sense to Beane, and his happiness begins to rub off on his sister’s life too — right down to the nuts and bolts of her own marriage. The Chicago Sun-Times says “Love Song” is “about nothing less than the chaos of being human, and the yearning for everything.” Funny, enchanting and wonderfully touching, this Olivier Award-Nominated, offbeat comedy is a rhapsody to the power of love in all its forms.
“The cast and I have really loved both the humor and poetry of this rich play,” says Director Renee Conn.
“‘Love Song’ punches with wit and the play is filled with both language and characters that are unpredictable,” adds Conn. “It is such a crisp and compassionate story that explores the catalysts that cause us to step outside the confines we create for ourselves, particularly given social expectations to keep quiet even when provoked. It is the perfect show to perform in the intimate theatre space of the O’Shaughnessy Center.”
Cast members include Andrew Matulionis as Beane, CrisMarie Campbell as Molly, Sarina Hart as Joan, Scott Plotkin as Harry, and Steven Durand as the Waiter. Viewers are reminded that as a Black Curtain production, there will minimal staging, no set or props, and actors will be reading from a script.
Tickets are $10 with general seating. Tickets are sold only at the door on the evenings of each show. The Box Office opens at 6:30 p.m. and is located at 1 Central Ave., Whitefish. For more information, call 862-5371.
